NIAMH O CONCHOBHAIR (b. 1968)

Still Life

Niamh O Conchobhair (O'Connor) was born in the Republic of Ireland in 1968. She now lives and works in rural Brittany, France. One of the new generation of 'Traditionalists' - artists returning to paint and canvas - O Connor focuses mainly on large and colourful distortions of post impressionist works. "It's a return to the world of art pre cubism. Not with the intetion of rejecting what has gone since, but with the idea being to revisit what happened immediately beforehand and to investigate new routes". She won the Cartazini prize in 2009 for a painting entitled 'Christ en bleu', which offered a disturbing new vision of Gaugin's 'Le Christ vert'.
