Emma Fournier was born in 1972 in Montreal, Canada. After an early period working as a journalist and photographer based in the United States, Fournier relocated with her partner to rural Ireland. Since then she has lived and worked throughout western Europe. Although she now has a home in France, she is once more based in Canada. Initially a photographer of conflict around the world, her recent work forms an ongoing commentary on the interface between life and death and how Western representations of death are often reduced to artificial and almost trivial markers of our mortality.
